6 ANSA employees detained by CNA in Otaci. They allegedly took bribes from various economic agents to facilitate the transit of goods
Officers of the NAC’s Directorate General Territorial (DGT) North and prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office of the Municipality of Otaci. Balti conducted raids this morning at the Otaci Border Inspection Post (PIF) of the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) in connection with a number of cases of passive bribery. As a result of the prosecution, 6 ANSA employees were detained for 72 hours on suspicion of having collected illegal payments from various economic agents for facilitating the transit of goods.
According to NAC investigations, the Otaci PIF employees allegedly demanded and accepted money, in different currencies, from transporters of animal and plant products in order not to submit them to sanitary and veterinary checks. In this way, they would have avoided the control of compliance with the sanitary-veterinary norms, food safety and quality requirements in the process of importing fresh meat, dairy products, confectionery and other goods, subject to sanitary-veterinary supervision.
As a result of the searches carried out at the premises of ANSA’s Otaci Border Inspection Post (BIP), at the homes and in the cars of the six suspects, by NAC DGT North officers, 35,000 lei, 8,000 hryvnia, mobile phones and records of imported goods were seized.
Currently, criminal prosecution actions are taking place under the procedural leadership of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Municipality of Chisinau. Balti, in order to document all aspects of the case.
