Another 57 units of illegally stored firearms were discovered and seized by the police, ipn.md reports.
The General Inspectorate of Police reports that in two months, police checked more than 43 thousand gun owners and drew up documents for 1,495 people for violating the rules for storing, carrying, using and possessing lethal and non-lethal weapons.
Voluntary surrender of weapons, ammunition and explosives frees a person from the punishment provided for by law for illegal possession: up to seven years in prison and a fine of up to 65 thousand lei.
Citizens can find out how to hand over weapons at the nearest police station or inspectorate, as well as by calling the rescue service 112.
Over the past ten years, approximately 20,000 firearms have been seized from illicit trafficking and melted down.
The campaign will end on May 31st.
