Half of the judges of the Chisinau Court of Appeal resigned

There are 20 judges left in the Chisinau Court of Appeal. The resignations were approved at a meeting of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) on May 7.

This happened shortly after the Verification Commission announced that only half of the 40 AP judges agreed to pass integrity filters, tv8.md reports.

Members of the SCM also voted to announce a competition to fill the vacant positions of AP judges.

Judge Nina Chernat assured that her resignation is not related to the assessment of the appellate courts and that she wants to retire from judicial activities after 34 years of work in this field.

“I probably should have done this a year ago, when others also left. As soon as I finish my work on the council, I will leave and do not want to return to the system,” Chernat said.

Judge Sergei Arnaut submitted his resignation due to reaching the age limit of 65 years. For the same reason, the judge of the Cahul Court of Appeal, Ion Danaile, resigned.

The requests were accepted by members of the SCM in the absence of 19 out of 21 magistrates. Only Sergei Arnaut and Nina Chernat were present at the meeting. The council’s decisions come into force on May 8.
