With care for children who interact with the court system
The State Secretary of the MAI, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, participated in the round table “Child-friendly justice: challenges and needs”, organized by the Ministry of Justice.
During the event, Daniella Misail-Nichitin emphasized that one of the priorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs remains ensuring the rights and protection of children. On this topic, the official spoke about the challenges and steps taken by the state authorities in the justice process involving children.
In this sense, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized the need to develop complex rehabilitation programs, protective measures and specialized assistance for children who are victims of contraventions and/or crimes, especially those involving the application of physical and/or sexual violence.
“There is a need to develop and strengthen specialized service networks – expanding and improving the network of specialized services for child victims and children in conflict with the law, including counseling services, therapy, education, professional training” stated the Secretary of State of the MAI.
Thus, cooperation between national authorities remains necessary to ensure a coherent and effective approach in children’s cases, especially children in conflict with the law, as well as improving the professional capacities of employees involved in the intervention of cases involving children, but also the creation of a system monitoring and evaluation of interventions with the participation of minors.
We remind you that the MAI and UNICEF signed, on July 12, 2023, a work plan to provide protection to children. It involves the development of complex mechanisms to provide services and prompt responses to the needs of children affected by various forms of violence. According to the action plan, alternatives to the deprivation of liberty of children in conflict with the law will be developed and promoted at the national level – rehabilitation, counseling, education and social reintegration programs adapted to the gender-specific needs of each child. Training is also provided for the staff of the competent authorities, including MAI employees, so that they effectively address the problems of children with and for whom they work, etc. The partnership will also support the creation and provision of tools and programs for prevention, protection and intervention, including the operationalization of Safe Cities.
