Prospects for collaboration discussed with the US Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration

MAI Secretary of State Jana Costachi held a bilateral meeting with the Assistant Secretary of the US Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration Scott Turner in the presence of the US Ambassador to Moldova, His Excellency Kent D. Logsdon.

In the margins of the discussions, the dynamics of the implementation of temporary protection for displaced persons from Ukraine were analysed from the perspective of ensuring fundamental rights. At the same time, the results of the actions undertaken by the authorities over the last six months with a view to documentation, socio-economic integration and ensuring the right to social services and education of displaced persons were assessed.

In this regard, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior spoke to the American partners about the importance of initiating projects and developing programs focused on integration aimed at assisting displaced persons from Ukraine in the medium and long term, as well as about the steps taken by the authorities regarding assisted voluntary repatriation to the Republic of Moldova for persons returned under readmission agreements.

Jana Costachi thanked the international community for its support in managing the refugee crisis and for its valuable assistance in integrating Ukrainian citizens into Moldovan society.

Those present appreciated the growing momentum in the implementation of the projects and noted their positive impact at both national and regional level.
