THE PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCED THE “SPOR FOR MOLDOVA” PACKAGE, WHICH INCLUDES SALARY INCREASES, ONE-OFF PAYMENTS AND FUNDING FOR PRIORITY PROJECTS. DORIN RECEAN: “WE ARE WITH THE CITIZENS AND WE HAVE A CONCRETE PLAN ON THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DIMENSION

September 25, 2023, Chisinau – After an extensive exercise to assess the degree of execution of the budget, the Government has identified the resources needed to increase salaries and grant one-off payments to 170 thousand employees in various professional categories. The “Sport for Moldova” wage package was presented by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at a press briefing and the budget amendment will be proposed to Parliament for approval next week.

“The government remains close to citizens. Even if it is a rather difficult year, together with external partners we are coming to the support of several categories of the population to improve living conditions. We have a concrete plan on the social and economic dimension, and our goal is to build a strong, European economy that will lead to further wage increases,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

According to the Prime Minister, the salaries of all doctors, nurses and medical assistants in the medical system financed by the Compulsory Health Care Insurance Fund will increase by 15% and those of forensic doctors by 26%. Thus, about 48 thousand health care workers will benefit from the increase. The average salary of a doctor will increase from 17 344 lei to 19 945 lei, of a nurse from 11 094 lei to 12 758 lei, of a nurse from 6 510 lei to 7 486 lei. The salaries of doctors and nurses in special institutions: hospitals of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Defence, prisons and rehabilitation and placement centres will also increase.

Financial support will also be given to employees in the education sector. 66 thousand people – teachers and scientists in all educational institutions – will receive a one-off payment of 5 thousand lei, and over 35 thousand non-teaching staff will receive 3 thousand lei. For the first time, this payment will be granted for the entire public education system – in total more than 100 thousand people.

A one-off payment of 5000 lei will also be given to more than 10 thousand employees of the Ministry of Interior – rescuers, policemen and carabinieri, who protect the safety of citizens and ensure public order in our country.

At the same time, as a result of the budget rectification, about 1700 employees, artistic staff of theatrical and performing arts institutions whose founder is the Ministry of Culture, will receive 25% more – an actor will get a salary of 8500 lei, 1500 lei more than at present, and a director will receive 11 210 lei, 2 thousand lei more than the current salary.

In addition, the government will allocate 100 million lei for road repairs, 300 million lei for village and town development projects and the European village programme, and 100 million lei as an agricultural bonus to help farmers develop their businesses and open new jobs. A further 352 million lei have been identified to cover electricity and heating costs for schools, kindergartens, hospitals and other budgetary institutions.
