A money laundering scheme has been uncovered in the capital: a one-call scam

Law enforcement officials report the suppression of a money laundering scheme carried out through a call center in Chisinau.

According to police, over the course of several months, more than 50 telephone operators offered people to invest in financial shares on the so-called “international stock exchanges,” noi.md reports.

“The calls were made through a telephone system installed by the organizers, through which telephone numbers were faked. In this way, potential clients from Russia, Kazakhstan and European countries were contacted to convince them to invest.

In reality, whoever ran the call center and his accomplices operated the platforms in which they invited defrauded customers to invest. At the moment, the amount of investment amounts to hundreds of thousands of lei. The call center was created in the name of an intermediary from the Transnistrian region, who, in fact, did not manage the business,” law enforcement officers report.

The police also clarify that the searches took place at the call center in Chisinau, as well as at the home of its administrator and the administrator of the premises from which the calls were made – men 35 and 25 years old. During the searches, six laptop computers, 20 phones, the administrator’s car and documents were seized. The prosecutor’s office assigned the call center administrator the status of a suspect. Investigations are ongoing.
