Intelligence and Security Service at the service of the present and future of the Republic of Moldova
08/09/2023, the Intelligence and Security Service celebrates the Day of State Security Workers and the 32nd anniversary of the creation of the Intelligence Service of the Republic of Moldova.
The official event started, according to the established tradition, with the laying of flowers by the leadership and employees of the Intelligence and Security College to the monument dedicated to the heroes of the state security bodies. After paying tribute to all those who sacrificed themselves for the defence of the territorial integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova, in front of the monument, the new batch of intelligence officers solemnly swore allegiance to the Motherland.
Then, a festive assembly was held with the participation of the President of the Republic of Moldova, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Maia Sandu, veterans of the Service and guests of honour.
During the ceremony, Alexandru MUSTICA, director of the Intelligence and Security Service, said that the institution is obliged to become stronger intellectually and operationally and to remain an information service meant to protect the citizen, society and the state. “What we are building now will in time define us as an organisation respected nationally and accepted in the European and international intelligence communities.”
He reiterated the institutional priorities that will drive performance growth, developing the information, operational and technical capabilities needed to manage threats, whatever their nature. He also stressed that efforts will continue to focus on protecting constitutional values, preventing and countering hybrid threats as well as cross-border organised crime. At the same time, some important developments for Moldova’s intelligence community were discussed, including the updating of the package of laws on national security and the first adoption of the law on counter-information activity and foreign information activity. This law provides the attributes of the Service and clear tools, adapted to domestic and international realities, necessary to ensure state security. Another recorded success was the expansion of cooperation with European intelligence services and the invitation to join a number of multilateral intelligence cooperation platforms, which represents the recognition of the Intelligence and Security Service as a reliable partner and active participant in building regional security.
In his congratulatory message, Alexandru MUSTICA expressed respect for the professionalism, contribution and ethical values shown by the intelligence officers, as well as for the team spirit that ensured institutional success.
In her address, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said: “The Service stands on the threshold of a year full of challenges, important missions and reforms. At the same time, Russia’s brutal and full-scale war against Ukraine has brought old threats back to the European continent. Climate change and new technologies bring new risks that we have not faced before. Moldova must be ready to face these old and new threats. In this complex and rapidly changing context, the information support provided by the SIS will be crucial for our successful adaptation and repositioning in the new regional environment. We rely on the SIS’ ability to anticipate, prevent and even deter, where possible, threats before they manifest themselves,” the head of state said.
Also today, during the festive assembly, Viktor KHODOROJA, an SIS colonel, was appointed Deputy Director of the Intelligence and Security Service.
Also, several officers were honoured with state and departmental awards in recognition of their outstanding performance.
