Safer border and protection of citizens by international standards, in the discussion between the MAI and the corps of ambassadors accredited in Chisinau, in the preparation of the Moldova Support Platform
In order to prepare the Ministerial Conference of the Moldovan Support Platform (MSP), a meeting of Working Group no. 5 “Border Management and Security”. The event, chaired by Interior Minister Adrian Efros and the US Ambassador to Moldova, H.E. Kent D. Logsdon, gathered ambassadors and diplomats accredited in Chisinau, as well as representatives of international organisations.
The participants in the meeting discussed the progress in attracting foreign assistance and the efforts of the development partners to strengthen the capacity of the internal affairs system for a more secure border and to reinforce the services for the protection of citizens.
During the meeting, Interior Minister Adrian Efros said that “the MSP is a platform for coordinating support initiatives to cover the needs of responding to the consequences and crises caused by the war, by strengthening Moldova’s role in ensuring security both at the national level and at the regional level, by strengthening first line response services, strengthening borders to fight transnational crime, ensuring secure communications, as well as ensuring the effective functioning of territorial subdivisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
For his part, His Excellency Ambassador Kent D. Logsdon of the United States of America reiterated support for strengthening the capacity of the internal affairs system, including by praising the assistance offered, as well as maintaining an active dialogue to mobilize the support of the Partners for Cooperation.
At the same time, during the PE meeting, the EU Ambassador Janis Mazeix emphasised that 50% of the assistance received by the MAI over the last 9 months is from EU funds, while the representative of the European Investment Bank of the Republic of Moldova, Alberto Carlei, urged the MAI to use as many financial instruments as possible to strengthen its capacities.
Thanks to the joint efforts of the development partner community, a budget of 21 million euros has been accumulated this year, obtained through the launching of 19 external assistance projects and the receipt of donations, to strengthen the areas of activity related to MAI.
Note: MSP is an initiative of Romania, Germany and France, which aims to mobilise, concentrate and coordinate political, technical and financial support from developed countries for the Republic of Moldova. The fourth edition will take place in Chisinau on 17 October.
