International Organisation for Migration (IOM) discusses new legal ways to identify migrants

Promoting international dialogue and sharing best practices on legislative initiative related to the legal personality of migrants was the main theme of the Global Restitution Workshop (GRW) organised by IOM, which took place on 16-17 August in Bangkok, Thailand.

MAI State Secretary Jana Kostaki participated in the workshop organised by the International Organisation for Migration in Geneva (IOM).

The experts present developed a set of common recommendations/ethical principles and created working groups responsible for establishing the legal personality of migrants.

It should be clarified that the Republic of Moldova, playing the role of a pilot country, participated together with other states in the development of the Compendium of Best Practices to Facilitate Access to Legal Status for Migrants without Confirmation of Identification Unit at IOM Headquarters from Geneva (Legal Identification Unit at IOM Headquarters in Geneva.

Developed on the basis of a joint study, the Compendium is an innovative gender-sensitive global guide that aims to guide Member States on best practices in establishing legal personality.
