National security on the agenda of the meeting of heads of diplomatic missions and consuls general organised in Chisinau
The national security of our country and the threats and risks caused by the war in Ukraine were discussed in detail by high-ranking officials from the national security, defence, intelligence and internal affairs structures together with the Moldovan diplomacy at the Meetings of Heads of Diplomatic Missions and Consuls General organised in Chisinau.
The debates focused on the analysis of the existing risks and the ways to mitigate and counter them through the joint efforts of all state institutions, together with Moldova’s diplomatic corps, which is an important pillar in the representation and integration of security. structures of the Republic of Moldova, in the law enforcement bodies of the European Union, as well as in international organisations, such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), in response to Russia’s attack on democracy and freedom on 24 February 2022, when it attacked Ukraine.
In this context, Interior Minister Adrian Efros said that the joint work done in unison by all public authorities, the private sector, farmers and ordinary citizens has led the West to put Moldova on the map of security producers for Europe, diplomacy being one of the main pillars of this success.
Joint work with our country’s diplomatic missions in Brussels, Paris, Berlin, Prague, Bucharest and beyond has led to: – invitations for the first time
to the JAI (Justice and Home Affairs Council – European Commission) of the Interior Minister, whose country is not a member of the EU;
- the creation of EU Security HUB in Chisinau, an interactive mechanism that connects us with the exchange of operational information, exchange of experiences and active work on cases of cross-border crime, organised crime, trafficking in arms, drugs and human beings, illegal migration, terrorism and extremism;
- the presence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova at the security conference in Berlin, where the most important decision makers in the field of world security were present;
- the creation of an international support network for the strengthening of the internal affairs system within the Moldovan Support Platform, created on the initiative of France, Germany and Romania.
The Interior Minister also specified that: “Given that the war in Ukraine will be a long one, we need now more than ever the contribution of diplomacy, and practice shows us that many of the actions launched have been achieved only thanks to the determination of our army of diplomats, who have shown that they know how to serve their homeland when it is most needed.”
