The Interior Minister handed a service ticket to General Ion Kostash.

Interior Minister Adrian Efros presented the certificate of lieutenant-general to former Interior Minister Ion Kostash.

During the event, Adrian Efros thanked the former head of the Interior Ministry for his significant contribution to the restructuring of the Interior Ministry, for the verticality, for the substantial efforts to protect the democratic values of the country.

As a token of gratitude, Ion Costas presented the Interior Ministry with the book “Chronicle of the Undeclared War”, in which he spoke in detail about the horrors of the war on the Dniester and the sacrifices of the heroes who fell on the battlefields.

“Be loyal to the nation and country despite the difficulties you will face on the way. We must have honesty, respect and dignity towards the nation, the country, the people,” Ion Costas said.

We would like to specify that Ion Costas took the post of Interior Minister in 1991, a week before the proclamation of Moldova’s sovereignty. He initiated a large-scale project of the National Police of the Republic of Moldova, which became the first national structure in the Soviet space.

Ion Costas was the main force during the fighting to defend the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova since 1992. During his activity, the Academy “Stefan cel Mare” of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was created. Moreover, he reorganised the “militia” into a police force and promoted the creation of the special police brigade “Fulger”. On 5 February 1992, Ion Kostas was appointed Minister of Defence by decree of former President Mircea Snegur.
