Sentenced to 16 years in prison for raping his wife’s 10-year-old sister

According to the reasoned judgement of 15 September 2023, a 34-year-old man from the centre of the country was found guilty of committing the offences of rape and perverted acts and sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment, to be served in a closed prison.

According to the indictment filed by the prosecutors, the defendant, in August 2017, being at his home located in a village in the center of the country, wishing to satisfy his sexual needs with his wife’s 10-year-old sister, repeatedly, at night, committed actions of a sexual nature with the purpose of perverting the minor.

Continuing his criminal actions, during the same period, being in a state of alcoholic intoxication, by physical coercion, taking advantage of the victim’s inability to defend herself due to her young age, he had sexual intercourse with the minor.

The sentence is not final and can be appealed within 15 days to the Chisinau Court of Appeal.

Note: A person accused of committing a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
