Sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempted murder of a couple in Chisinau municipality

Prosecutors from the Chisinau City Prosecutor’s Office have obtained a new sentence for a person accused of attempted murder.

Thus, according to the judgment of the Chisinau Court, Buiucani office of 31 July 2023, a 38-year-old man from the Russian Federation was found guilty of attempted murder of two or more persons (Art. 27, 145 (2) (g) of the Criminal Code) and was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment, with the execution of the sentence in a closed prison.

According to the materials of the criminal case, on 20 November 2022, after watching a show at a theatre in Chisinau, the accused wanted to continue the evening by using the sexual services of a woman of opportunity.

After obtaining her details and agreeing on the price, he went to her apartment in the Botanica sector of the capital, where sexual intercourse took place.

Later, at around 5 a.m., the defendant and the woman’s husband entered the room where the defendant and the woman were staying and demanded additional money from the defendant for certain verbal offences against his wife.

As a result of this conflict, the men got into a fight, the defendant successively hit the husband and wife with a knife, which he had on him at the time, in various vital parts of the body, causing the man, according to the conclusions of the forensic expert’s report, serious bodily injuries, as a result of which, as a result of internal and external bleeding, the man died.

The second victim survived and was admitted to a medical institution in serious condition.

The preventive measure (pre-trial detention) against the defendant was maintained by the court, pending the entry into force of the sentence.

The sentence is not final and may be appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeal within 15 days.

Note:The person accused of committing a crime is presumed innocent as long as his/her guilt is not established by a final judgment of conviction.
