Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs: There is no systemic corruption, there are only isolated cases

According to Adrian Efros, this year more than 120 statements from employees about attempts at corruption against them have been recorded, while in 2023 23 were registered.

Efros noted that this does not necessarily indicate the cessation of the phenomenon, but it is a positive indicator, reports radiochisinau.md

The Minister of Internal Affairs claims that the public has a distorted view of corruption among law enforcement officials.

“We have launched a massive education and training campaign on this aspect. In 2024, we already have over 120 cases of attempted bribery allegations. In 2023, we only had 23 complaints. These numbers show that the training and efforts we are making to fight against corruption, produce results.”

– Yes, but denunciations do not mean that bribes are no longer given or taken.

“But this is a very positive indicator,” the minister said.

Efros was also asked who takes bribes in the system today.

“The employees of the National Inspectorate of Public Security remain the most vulnerable; they have the greatest contact with citizens, especially in traffic. We also have complaints from the Border Police. Out of habit or for various reasons, citizens still leave money in their passports, which in all cases are returned or reported.”
