Recan: Unfortunately, we still have judges and prosecutors who take bribes

Prime Minister Dorin Recean expressed dissatisfaction with the court decision, which granted amnesty to former deputy of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) Constantin Tutu in the case of murder in Orhei Codru in 2012.

“I expect that honest prosecutors and judges will come to the fore and arrest those prosecutors and those judges who commit abuses and do not punish those who should actually be in prison today.

I won’t speculate, but I just want to say that today we still have enough cases where prosecutors and judges take bribes and, accordingly, do not bring cases to completion,” Recean said, as quoted by realitatea.md

Let us remind you that all the defendants in the case of the death of Alexei Veretco in Orhei Codri 12 years ago are at large and released from punishment by the decision of the Chisinau Court of Appeal.

Thus, Ion Corcodel, the only person convicted in this case, as well as Vasile Cojocaru, were released from punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution. Democrat Constantin Tutu, as well as his friends Oleg Pruteanu and Dmitry Kolomeichuk, were released from execution due to the “offset of amnesty.”

In April 2012, Constantin Tsutu took part in a fight with gunfire near a restaurant near Orhei. As a result, 42-year-old Alexey Veretko died.

After the man who allegedly killed Veretko surrendered, murder charges against the other three suspects, including Constantin Tsutu, were dropped and criminal charges were opened on hooliganism charges.

The trial began in 2013 and the case has gone through several courts since then. The case has been in the Chisinau Court of Appeal for more than three years. All defendants, including Constantin Tsutu, plead not guilty.
