Two competitions in the Supreme Council of Prosecutors were organized with serious violations
After the scandal surrounding the competition for the selection of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova, another incident occurred in the Supreme Council of Prosecutors (SCP).
This time, the legitimacy of two competitions held by the SCJ for the selection of inspectors for the Inspectorate of Prosecutors on March 4, 2024, extended until the end of this month, and for the selection of the head of the Inspectorate of Prosecutors on March 28, 2024, which was won by Mircea Roscioru, is being questioned, reports noi.md with reference to realitatea.md
It is alleged that in both competitions the SCJ changed the Rules, contrary to the legal provisions established by the Parliament of Moldova, thereby limiting the access of thousands of lawyers to participate in the competition. In particular, the deputies established that any person with legal experience of at least 10 years can apply for these positions, but at the same time, the SCJ included at the end the phrase “under the conditions of paragraph (3) of Article 20 of Law No. 3/2016,” which allows the submission of a dossier only to prosecutors, judges, prosecutors, and NAC employees.
SCJ member Andrei Cebotari sent a statement to the Parliament of Moldova and the Supreme Council of Prosecutors (SCP) reporting these violations, which will be considered at the next SCJ meeting.
When asked why he made such a statement only now, after the appointment of the head of the Prosecutor’s Inspectorate, Andrei Chebotar had an explanation. “Because for 3 months I raised this issue at the Council, and although most of my colleagues supported me, I don’t know how it happened that every time an announcement on the Council’s website is published with this abuse.
Because these collegial discussions did not lead to anything , and the announcement published on April 5 still contains this violation, this time I officially registered the letter and sent it to parliament,” said the SCJ member.
