The leadership of the MAI participated in the National Conference “Current problems in the identification of stateless persons, the reduction and prevention of statelessness”

The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior participated in the National Conference “Current problems in the identification of stateless persons, the reduction and prevention of statelessness”.

During the event, Jana Costachi mentioned the fact that the good practices existing in the Republic of Moldova in the field of statelessness are internationally recognized and that the authorities are still planning actions aimed at preventing and reducing cases of statelessness. Thus, on the IGM’s immediate perspective agenda is the assessment of the situation of the stateless persons, the establishment of a dialogue with them, in order to subsequently provide them with the services and assistance they need. 

We specify, the Conference on the theme “Current problems of identification of stateless persons”. Reducing and preventing cases of statelessness” was held by the Lawyers’ Law Center, on November 1-2, with the support of UNHCR Moldova.

The event took place in the context of the #IBelong Campaign, launched by UNHCR in November 2014, with the aim of ending statelessness within ten years, by identifying and protecting stateless persons, solving existing statelessness situations and preventing new cases.

The event was attended by national and international experts, representatives of central public authorities and human rights defenders, including representatives of UNHCR, the European Network on Statelessness (ENS), deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Inspectorate for Migration, The Public Services Agency, the Office of the People’s Advocate and the Council for Equality, as well as experts from civil society.
