Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for committing multiple apartment burglaries. His accomplices were also sentenced
Prosecutors from the Chisinau City Prosecutor’s Office have obtained a conviction against a 49-year-old man accused of robbery and 4 episodes of theft.
According to the indictment, during September 2021, the defendant, following an agreement with a man, stole from 4 apartments located in the Botanica sector of the capital, several goods, including laptops, gold jewelry, money, etc. The value of the stolen goods is estimated at over 200 000 lei.
The same defendant, on September 28, 2021, at approximately 13:30, together and in agreement with the same man and a 48-year-old woman, drove a black “KIA Optima” car on Independenței Street in the municipality of Bucharest. Chisinau, which they parked in the yard of a residential building. They were going to use the car to transport the stolen goods. The accused entered an apartment, from where he stole the sum of 900 euros and 7,000 lei from the pocket of a winter shorts in a wardrobe, when he was detected by the owner of the apartment, who returned from shopping and tried to stop the criminal actions of the perpetrator, but he attacked him with a knife in the kitchen sink. The landlord panicked and left the apartment and locked the defendant in the apartment, calling the police. The perpetrator, with the stolen goods, jumped out of the 4th floor window, using the annexes built up to the 2nd floor, leaving the scene of the crime.
On September 28, 2023, the Buiucani Court of Chisinau pronounced the sentence. The defendant was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, to be served in a semi-closed prison.
The man’s accomplice was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison with partial suspension of the sentence, so that 1 year and 9 months will be served in prison and the remaining 1 year and 9 months was conditionally suspended for a probation period of 4 years.
The woman, a participant in the latest episode of the crime, was punished with 200 hours of unpaid community service.
The sentence is not final and can be appealed within 15 days to the Chisinau Court of Appeal.
Note: A person accused of committing a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
