Sentenced to 9 years in prison for committing two episodes of robbery, hooliganism and illegal drug trafficking

By judgment of the Chisinau Court, Buiucani office, of 18 September 2023, a 32-year-old man was sentenced to 9 years’ imprisonment in a semi-closed prison, with deprivation of the right to hold positions or exercise activities in the pharmaceutical field and in the field of the circulation of drugs, ethnobotanicals or their analogues for a period of 5 years, accused of drug trafficking in particularly large proportions, hooliganism and two episodes of robbery.

According to the indictment filed by the prosecutors of the Chisinau City Prosecutor’s Office, the defendant, on the morning of November 6, 2017, while in a night club in the Ciocana sector of the capital, with greed, punched a young man in the face region, then stole his mobile phone and wallet, and with the stolen goods fled in an unknown direction.

Further, the same defendant, on August 15, 2019, being on Igor Vieru Street in mun. Chisinau, intentionally blocked a part of the roadway, and at the request of a driver to cross to the sidewalk, initiated a conflict with him, kicking the bumper of the car, which he damaged, and then, with hooligan intentions, kicked him in the region of the driver’s face, causing minor bodily injury.

The same defendant, on December 25, 2019, at night, being in the Botanica sector of mun. Chisinau, openly stole the mobile phone from a minor, after which he left the place of the crime with the stolen goods.

The perpetrator, being a drug user, came into possession of a prohibited plant mass, and on 17 February 2020, being stopped by police employees and taken to the Ciocana Police Inspectorate of the Chisinau Police Department, he voluntarily handed over the substance, which according to the technical-scientific report was an ethnobotanical product containing the synthetic cannabinoid “MDMB (N)-022”, with a mass of 0.556 grams, which is an analogue of the narcotic substance without medicinal use “5F-AMB”, included in Government Decision no. 1088 of 5 October 2004 on the approval of the tables and lists of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors subject to control, and the quantity detected, according to Table I of the List of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and plants containing such substances, detected in illicit trafficking, and their quantities, approved by Government Decision No 79 of 23 January 2006, is particularly large.

The judgment is not final and may be appealed within 15 days to the Chisinau Court of Appeal.

Note: A person accused of committing a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
