National Archives Agency to be reorganised
September 13, 2023, Chisinau – The Cabinet of Ministers today approved a draft decision on the reorganization and optimization of the internal structure of the National Archives Agency (ANA). The main objectives are: to strengthen the institutional capacities of the ANA; to provide the institution with professional staff; to increase the role of the institution in retrieval (including from the ex-KGB and Soviet MAI archives), preservation and exploitation of paper and electronic documents, both within the National Archives Agency and at the national level; to simplify citizens’ access to files, etc.
Thus, in order to facilitate citizens’ access to information, it is proposed to create the Digitization and E-Archive Directorate, which will be in charge of digitizing inventories, paper, film, audio and video documents, as well as the most requested and important documents of the Archives of the Republic of Moldova. The new directorate will have seven staff, two of whom will be in charge of managing the E-Archive system at national level. The concept for the e-archive is expected to be approved by the Government in the near future.
The reorganisation also foresees the merger of two subdivisions and the establishment of a further position of deputy director of the ANA, in addition to the existing one, with the current number of employees of the institution being maintained.
“The modification of the organizational structure of the ANA aims to modernize the archival system in such a way that the staff is able to manage the national archival heritage as professionally and efficiently as possible, with the aim of strengthening and protecting the national identity. At the same time, the digitization of the Archive Fund and the services provided by the institution will simplify the access of individuals and legal entities to the services and documents in the archive. A first step in this direction has been taken, and citizens can now register online to obtain the necessary documents,” said Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru at the Government meeting.
The reorganisation and optimisation of the internal structure of the ANA is part of the institution’s major objectives, set out in the Government’s Action Plan for 2023-2025.
