Vegetation fires – another form of threat to citizens’ security – in MAI’s sights
Starting from the desire to ensure security, in all its forms, for every citizen, MAI aims to streamline the response to exceptional situations, including vegetation fires.
In this regard, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior, Jana Costachi, together with representatives of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and the Ministry of Environment, participated in a public discussion aimed at assessing the challenges of vegetation fire management.
“One of the basic objectives of the state, including those set out in the Government’s Programme of Activities, is to strengthen the national emergency response mechanism by ensuring interoperability with European procedures,” Ms Costachi said at the start of the discussions.
During the event, the results of the Assessment of the current situation of forest and vegetation fires in the Republic of Moldova were reviewed. The participating authorities agreed to streamline collaboration in managing fire response and to jointly strengthen the preparedness of relevant institutions.
As a reminder, in 2022, firefighters responded to more than 9,000 vegetation fires throughout the country.
