Dragalin: Prosecutors feel vulnerable
The head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, Veronica Dragalin, argues that the prosecutors she supervises often feel very weak or vulnerable when they have to start and handle a case.
According to Veronica Dragalin, prosecutors who deal with serious corruption cases show sufficient courage when they take them on. The statements were made in the Cutia Neagră program in the context of the fact that recently the Chairman of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, publicly invited prosecutors to show more courage, reports tv8.md
“The atmosphere is such that many prosecutors feel very vulnerable when making decisions, especially in very sensitive cases. In most cases, we have influential people in our leadership, even if they are from the opposition. We are talking about deputies, judges, prosecutors, lawyers with large resources. Thus, they have virtually unlimited financial resources. We are talking about Plahotniuc, Shor and everyone else. Every prosecutor who signs his name on the indictment and goes to court to present the prosecution is, from my point of view, doing a rather dangerous job,” said Veronica Dragalin.
The head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that prosecutors often have a reputation for corruption, and offered to support the truly brave.
“They are there, they have already made important decisions in the interests of the country and they work out of a civic spirit, not because they have good working conditions, high salaries or protection,” Dragalin said.
