Border Service: 16 Ukrainian migrants tried to enter Moldova illegally
Over the past 72 hours, Border Police officers, together with the IP and GIP and in cooperation with the local population, have identified four cases of illegal crossing of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border in the southern part of the country.
The incidents were recorded in the area of responsibility of the Border Police sector Bessarabka, Cismikioi, Leova and Valea Perzei, realitatea.md reports.
In the area of responsibility of the Bessarabka border section, in the direction of the city of Tvarditsa, border guards noticed a group of men who were heading on foot into the interior of the country. Once in the populated area, they dispersed, but thanks to the prompt intervention of the Taraclia IP and the local population, the border guards soon detained them.
Nine Ukrainian citizens aged from 22 to 44 years were detained on the spot, who, during the investigation, confirmed that they had illegally entered Moldova from Ukraine. The foreigners stated that in order to get to Moldova, they received help and paid amounts ranging from $5,000 to $9,000 each in Ukraine. Four more foreigners were discovered as a result of joint activities carried out by employees of the Cismikioi Border Police Sector and the Vulcanesti IP.
These persons were unable to justify their presence in the border area. Employees of the Leovsky section of the Border Police, in collaboration with the Leovsky IP, on the R34 Cahul – Giurgiulesti highway stopped a minibus “Chisinau – Cahul”, in which they found two citizens of Ukraine who did not have the legal right to enter Moldova.
The list of illegal actions was supplemented by a citizen of Ukraine who illegally crossed the state border from Ukraine to Moldova through the area of responsibility of the Valya Perzhey UCP. He was discovered by a Border Police patrol along with a GIPP officer just 500 meters from the border. All of them are applicants for asylum on the territory of Moldova.
Border guards of the Southern Regional Directorate continue to investigate these cases on all legal aspects to clarify the circumstances.
