The Ministry of Justice continues to work on the standardisation of salaries and expenses of judges and prosecutors

November 14, 2023, Chisinau – Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru held a working meeting with the Minister of Finance, representatives of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM), the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP), the Parliamentary Legal Commission, as well as the Acting Prosecutor General.

Discussions focused on identifying the possibility of compensating transport or rent costs for some prosecutors or judges working in a different locality than their place of residence.

Another issue was the standardisation of judges’ and prosecutors’ salaries in the context of the vetting exercise. This is because the external evaluation process is ongoing and the Government has committed itself to increasing the salaries of judges and prosecutors who have undergone vetting.

The meeting agreed to set up a working group to develop an analysis in order to have an overview and to identify single calculation formulas to overcome all challenges.

It should be recalled that, thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Justice, the salaries of court and prosecutor’s office employees (court clerks, judicial assistants, consultants, translators) were increased in the October budget rectification. For details, see the press release.
