Dragalin: The best solution is to create a structure based on the Romanian DNA model

Veronica Dragalin continues to insist that the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, which she heads, and the National Anti-Corruption Center (NCC) need to be merged.

She believes that on their basis the National Anti-Corruption Directorate should be created – a structure similar to the DNA of Romania, notes noi.md with reference to realitatea.md

The head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office says that although Sergei Litvinenko previously approached her when he was Minister of Justice, the matter did not move forward. “The best solution would be to use the Romanian DNA model. There, prosecutors who work for the DNA are placed in positions in other prosecutors’ offices and, through a competition in which the chief prosecutor of the DNA participates, are selected to be seconded to the DNA for a certain period of time. (…) I spoke on this topic with Sergei Litvinenko when he was Minister of Justice. He was open to such discussions, but no one came forward with such an initiative legislatively. From my point of view, this is the fastest, simplest, fair and correct decision,”

Dragalin said. In August 2023, at a press conference organized to mark the year of activity, Veronica Dragalin repeated this idea. She noted that reorganizing the institution according to the Romanian DNA model will allow prosecutors to more easily investigate acts of corruption.

The Chairman of Parliament Igor Grosu, as well as President Maia Sandu, spoke about this earlier. Only prosecutors and investigators who had passed an external and extraordinary integrity assessment could work in this new institution.
