Lawyer from Balti caught red-handed while receiving 70 thousand lei
A lawyer from Balti was detained by the National Anti-Corruption Center (NCAC) and Balti prosecutors in a case of influence peddling.
He demanded 100,000 lei from the woman and received 70,000 lei in exchange for influencing some judges from Chisinau who were hearing the criminal case brought against her husband. The lawyer was detained while receiving part of the money, the NAC press service reported on March 22, zdg.md reports.
According to the investigation, “the suspect claimed that he could convince the judges to reclassify the criminal case brought against the applicant’s husband for theft, so that he would be given a more lenient sentence.
He also promised the woman that he would persuade the judges to defer the arrest until a final decision in the case was made.” On March 22, under the supervision of NAC employees, the moment of transfer of 70,000 lei was documented.
The lawyer was caught red-handed and sent to a pre-trial detention center for 72 hours. Currently, under the procedural leadership of the Balti prosecutor’s office, urgent investigative actions are being carried out. It is reported that in 2022, the lawyer was detained by NAC officers in a case of benefiting from influence. A criminal case in which he is accused of demanding 5,500 euros for influencing a court decision is pending in court.
