Sentence of 8 years and 10 months in prison for the driver who, following the accident in the village of Ghidighici, caused the death of two people

On October 31, 2023, the sentence of the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, was pronounced on a criminal case referred to trial by the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor’s Office.

Thus, according to the sentence, the defendant was found guilty of violating traffic safety rules or operating means of transport by the person driving the means of transport, a violation that recklessly caused the death of two people, committed while intoxicated ( art.264 para.(6) of the Criminal Code), establishing a prison sentence for a term of 8 years and 10 months, with execution in an open penitentiary.

We remind you that the prosecutors submitted the accusation that, on June 9, 2023, at approximately 10:20 p.m., driving the means of transport in a state of alcoholic intoxication, moving with exceeding the speed limit on Victoriei Street in the village of Ghidichici , Chisinau municipality, did not show increased caution in traffic, did not take into account all the factors characterizing the road conditions, ignoring the provisions of the Road Traffic Regulations, and as a result collided with another means of transport in which the driver and 3 passengers were .

Two passengers, including a 30-year-old woman and her 7-month-old child, died on the spot, and the third passenger, who turned out to be a 4-year-old child, suffered injuries, which according to the forensic report it qualifies as medium bodily harm.

The sentence is not final and can be appealed within 15 days at the Chisinau Court of Appeal.
