NAC: Millions of lei worth of criminally obtained assets were seized

The National Anti-Corruption Center reports on the activities carried out last week on the anti-corruption component, as well as other actions from the range of institutional functions.

Based on the complaints received, 2 cases of benefiting from influence were opened. In the first case, a resident of the Chisinau municipality was detained red-handed. He promised the man to expedite the import of used cars from the European Union in exchange for 1,000 euros, and was detained for 72 hours. In the second case, a woman from Drochia demanded 1,800 euros to make it easier for a man to obtain a driver’s license, noi.md reports.

At the moment, 6 people arrested in cases initiated by the National Anti-Corruption Center are placed in penitentiary institutions. During the reporting period, the criminal prosecutor’s office initiated 6 criminal cases and proposed sending 4 criminal cases to court.

The Agency for the Recovery of Criminally Obtained Assets last week seized assets worth about 4.8 million lei, based on instructions from the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations of the National Anticorruption Center. Among them are 10 bank accounts, residential premises, vehicles, land for construction, seized in cases of money laundering. More than 3 million lei were confirmed by court decisions on previously applied arrests. At the same time, an order was issued to freeze a bank account in the amount of 500 thousand euros, and 143 thousand lei were credited to the Agency’s treasury accounts.

In the field of preventing corruption, the Legislation Department last week prepared and handed over to the authors 17 expert opinions and 5 opinions on draft regulations. Also, 8 forensic medical examinations were carried out, another 82 examinations are under the jurisdiction of the relevant department. During this period, 14 anti-corruption trainings were organized for 790 people.

The NAC notifies about the start of 3 operational analyzes and the issuance of 83 certificates of integrity. The national anti-corruption line received 50 calls, and 1,510 materials were registered in the center’s office.
