#FărăMită: how Ukrainian refugees can contribute to fighting corruption in Moldova

Ukrainians who sought refuge from the armed conflict are now building a new life in Moldova. As the conflict drags on, people make significant efforts to integrate into our society. Approximately 100,000 people – a community equivalent to the population of Balti – found shelter at our house. They learn Romanian, look for jobs, learn about their rights and try to live safely.

With the granting of temporary protection, refugees can plan their life in Moldova more easily, because the status gives them more rights for their integration:

●     primary and emergency medical care

●     access to general public education

●     social assistance and social protection measures

●     the right to employment, etc.

Those who have obtained temporary protection status benefit from all this for free, just like the local population. “When a sum of money is claimed in exchange for a free guaranteed service, or when a refugee witnesses a case of corruption, it is very important that these cases are reported immediately, especially to the authorities responsible for managing these reports . Beneficiaries and refugees must understand and be aware that their legal rights cannot be called into question through a bribe request, and if they are faced with such a situation, they must know that it is a crime regulated by the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova, for which the maximum penalty is imprisonment”, explains Tatiana Agachi, jurist, Women’s Law Center.

How can you report an act of corruption?

Believing that acts of corruption cause significant damage to economic progress and the quality of life of society, the lawyer encourages refugees and the communities in which they live to report acts of corruption when bribes are demanded for free benefits by:

●     calling the National Anticorruption Line of the CNA: 080055555;

●     submitting a complaint directly to the CNA on the acts of corruption that happened to them.

Being a refugee is not a choice. Being corrupt – yes. You have the right to live safely #separate!

About the campaign
