Veronica Mihailov-Moraru: “Only with joint efforts will we be able to bring about beneficial changes in the justice system”
October 26, 2023, Chisinau – The Minister of Justice, Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, participated in the Regional Forum on the progress of justice reform in the Republic of Moldova, held in Balti with the participation of several representatives of the justice system, members of local civil society, and students.
Veronica Mihailov-Moraru reported on the activity of the Ministry of Justice and the following priorities, on the process of implementing justice reform and combating corruption, as well as on fulfilling the commitments assumed as a candidate country for EU accession, the basic priority of the Ministry of Justice for the moment.
“Six of the nine conditionalities imposed by the European Commission refer to the field of justice, and this is an indicator that without a justice of European standards we will not bring Europe home. The initiated processes are complex and, in time, they will bring us the expected results”, said the Minister of Justice.
Veronica Mihailov-Moraru also informed the audience about the reform of the Supreme Court of Justice which, for the first time, will change its composition and have new powers, with an emphasis on the standardization of judicial practice.
Last but not least, Minister Mihailov-Moraru urged those present at the event to get involved in the development of policies, participating in the Advisory Council and the Anti-corruption Platform set up under the Ministry of Justice, as well as in correctly informing the general public, in order to contribute to increasing the level of legal culture.
