Police officers – under criminal investigation, after falsifying data on drivers who violated road traffic regulations

The officers of the internal protection and anti-corruption service of the MAI, in collaboration with the prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases , documented several  policemen  from the National Public Security Inspectorate for falsifying data on drivers who violated traffic rules.

More precisely, since the beginning of 2023, three operators have been suspended from their functions during the investigations, after allegedly entering into the computer database other names than the real ones, indicated in the minutes, regarding the drivers who violated the rules of driving cars. Usually, they falsely indicated the name of someone close to the offending drivers, who in fact were not even using their driving licenses.

On October 13, 2023, searches were carried out at the residence, office and car of an employee of the Road Traffic Monitoring and Documentation Section of the INSP of the IGP of the MAI. He is being investigated for the fact that he falsely indicated, directly in the minutes, the names of drivers who pulled over on the right, who were to be penalized.

All four are from the center of the republic and have up to 10 years of work experience. Among the documented cases are also offending drivers with the status of civil servants and company administrators, whose penalty points and fines were “transferred” to other people. Therefore, these falsifications by the investigating police resulted in the fact that real dangerous drivers continued to drive their cars, with a high risk of committing further violations that could also affect other people’s lives.

Investigations continue, during which the persons benefit from the presumption of innocence, according to the law.
