PCCOCS confiscated 2.3 million lei: Money was brought from Moscow in the interests of organized crime groups

About 50 people, passengers on two flights, tried to illegally bring 130 thousand dollars (more than 2.3 million lei) into the country at the end of April and beginning of May.

Passengers arriving from Moscow were examined at customs at Chisinau International Airport. According to law enforcement officials, these people “acted as money carriers,” and the money was intended for an organized criminal group, zdg.md reports

According to law enforcement, these passengers were taken to the airport by bus both on departure and on return, when they brought money.

“Individuals acted as carriers of money so that the authorities would not know the origin and purpose of using this money. (…) The money was seized as evidence in a criminal case.

Also, for the investigation, mobile phones (identical models, it is tentatively assumed that they were issued for communication regarding the smuggling of money into the country) were seized,” the Customs Service said in a press release published on May 15.

Employees of the Customs Service, together with employees of the National Investigation Inspectorate under the leadership of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, announced the initiation of a criminal case into the smuggling of about 130 thousand dollars (more than 2.3 million lei) into the country by passengers arriving from Moscow.

The investigation continues, the origin and purpose of this money is being clarified.

On April 22, law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case after several people returning by plane from Moscow, where they participated in an event to create the political bloc “Victory”, coordinated by oligarch Ilan Shor, illegally smuggled more than 20 million lei into the country. According to law enforcement agencies, several people, mainly from Gagauzia, were used as money carriers. In addition to checks at the airport, more than 100 searches were carried out in this case, including outside Chisinau, during which large sums of money were also seized.
