Life sentence for a man from Ungheni district accused of murder and domestic violence

On November 3, 2023, the sentence of the Ungheni Court was pronounced, on a criminal case sent to court by the Ungheni District Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the sentence, a 29-year-old man was found guilty of committing murder (art. 145 para. (2) letter e), j) of the Criminal Code) and domestic violence (art. 201/ 1 para.(1) letter a), b) of the Criminal Code) establishing the final punishment in the form of life imprisonment, with the execution of the sentence in a closed penitentiary.

The sentence can be challenged with an appeal within 15 days at the Chisinau Court of Appeal.

According to the accusation submitted by the prosecutors of the Ungheni District Prosecutor’s Office, the defendant, on August 8, 2023, between 02:00 and 06:00, being in a state of advanced alcoholic intoxication, being at the residence of his 47-year-old years, as a result of an intentional conflict with a kitchen knife, he stabbed her 50 times, applying the blows to different regions of the body. As a result, the victim died.

He too, three months earlier, one night, being at his mother’s residence in the Călărași district, being under the influence of alcoholic beverages, hit his stepfather several times with a wooden club in the head and body region, causing and, according to the medico-legal forensic report, minor bodily injuries.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges.

This is not the first offense of criminal order, having previously been convicted for committing several crimes, including for committing an intentional murder.

Note: A person accused of committing a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
