Sentenced to 10 years in prison for committing a murder on Grenoble street in the capital

On October 19, 2023, the sentence of the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, was pronounced on a criminal case referred to trial by the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor’s Office.

Thus, according to the sentence, a 37-year-old man, originally from the Ialoveni district, was found guilty of intentional murder , and was sentenced to 10 years in prison , with the execution of the sentence in a prison closed.

During the criminal investigation, the prosecutors established that the defendant, on April 23, 2023, during the evening, while walking with his brother-in-law on Grenoble Street in the municipality of Chisinau, met with an old acquaintance of his, who was accompanied by the stepfather. An argument broke out between the defendant and his acquaintance. According to the statements of the witnesses, the two, wanting to “clarify themselves as men”, withdrew from the sidewalk, in an area covered with pine trees, and started fighting. The defendant, at some point, took out a knife and stabbed the victim several times, including in the abdomen.

The victim’s stepfather called for an ambulance, but the doctors who arrived at the scene could not save the man, who died during medical interventions.

The defendant fully admitted his guilt for the act he was accused of.

This is not a first offense.

The preventive measure (pretrial arrest) regarding the defendant was maintained by the court, until the sentencing entered into force.

The sentence is not final and can be appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeal within 15 days.

Note: A person accused of committing a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
