Conviction. Five years in prison – the sentence received by an extra in the criminal case with the generic “Rezina disability certificates”

On October 16, 2023, the Orhei Court, Central Headquarters, pronounced the sentence in the criminal case referred to the justice by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, which concerns the actions of a social relations specialist of the Territorial Structure for determining the disability and work capacity Rezina, accused of committing 19 traffic episodes of influence ( art. 326 para. (2) letter b) of the Criminal Code) .

The respective criminal case was started in February 2020 by the National Anticorruption Center, and according to the materials, the social relations specialist of the Territorial Structure for determining disability and work capacity Rezina, acting jointly with another colleague, claimed and received from the persons interested in granting the degree of disability and/or their relatives, who did not correspond to the criteria regarding the determination of disability, monetary means varying between 4,000 and 18,500 lei, claiming that they have influence on public persons within the Service for the Determination of Disability and Work Capacity, to induce them to grant the degree of disability requested.

The trial of the case lasted 8 months, with the defendant being dismissed in a separate procedure, she admitting her guilt of committing the criminal act and, at her request, the criminal case being examined based on the evidence administered during the criminal investigation phase.

Thus, by the sentence of October 16, 2023, the court found the defendant guilty of committing 19 episodes of influence peddling, and although the state prosecutor requested the imposition of a fine of 250,000 lei, it was established for actual crimes , through the partial summation of the established punishments – punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 5 (five) years in a semi-closed penitentiary for women.

At the same time, the special confiscation was applied by collecting from the defendant’s account, with the transfer to the benefit of the state budget, the amount exceeding 107,000 lei.

The sentence can be appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeal within 15 days.

Note: A person accused of committing a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
