Sentenced to 15 years in prison for the murder of his wife

By the sentence of the Ungheni Court of October 4, 2023, a 69-year-old man from the Ungheni district was found guilty of committing the crime of intentional homicide committed against a family member, establishing his punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 15 years, with the execution of the sentence in a closed penitentiary.

According to the accusation submitted by the prosecutors of the Ungheni District Prosecutor’s Office, the defendant, on February 12, 2023, at approximately 04:00, while he was at his home in Ungheni District, where he lived with his wife, under unknown circumstances, strangled his life partner.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

According to his version, on the night of the crime, he would not have slept with the victim in the room and knows nothing. He heard shouts, noises and when he came to the room where his wife was, he found her already dead. He stated that he did not know who could have killed her. He mentioned that he tried to massage her neck thinking it would save her, but the woman was already cold.

The sentence is not final and can be appealed within 15 days at the Chisinau Court of Appeal.
