MAI together with IGSU continues the campaign to inform citizens about the importance of Moldova’s accession to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism

The Ministry of Internal Affairs together with the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations continues to inform citizens about the importance of Moldova’s accession to the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

With the signing of this agreement, Moldovan firefighters and rescuers join the strongest international cooperation network in the field of disaster prevention, preparedness and response and crisis management.

In this regard, another social spot was filmed, where citizens talk about the support of other countries, which we can benefit from in case of an earthquake or other natural disasters, to manage and liquidate the consequences of the critical situation.

Also through the Mechanism, when an emergency situation exceeds the response capacities of a country in Europe and beyond, Moldovan firefighters and rescuers will be able to offer help, alongside their European colleagues, as they did in the mission in Turkey. It should be recalled that following the tragic earthquake in Turkey in February 2023, a team of 56 Moldovan firefighters and rescuers specialised in urban search and rescue went to the affected area, where they actively contributed to the search and rescue of human lives, managing to pull a 3-year-old boy out of the ruins.

The Republic of Moldova’s membership of the Mechanism brings added security and safety to its citizens in the face of natural and man-made disasters, and demonstrates once again that our country has a European capacity to respond.
